Anyone who knows me, knows I am an absolute perfectionist in all aspects of my life. From cleaning the jeeps, to cooking for the family and planning trips, everything has to be done perfectly. Even this blog! I get it from my Mother’s side of the family, the Nugent’s. However, being a perfectionist in business can have it’s positive and negative points. I am always extremely organised but it can lead to overspending, lack of prioritization and stress.
As a family, we've always been very close so when myself and Elliot decided to set up Wild Atlantic Crusades, it was obvious that we had to rally the troops and fully utilise the skills and professional abilities of our siblings, other halves and our parents. Straight away, it was clear that mixing family and business for Wild Atlantic Crusades definitely gave us an advantage as a new start up business.
Welcome to our second blog post. Our first blog detailed ‘the big idea’ behind Wild Atlantic Crusades and how that was created, here we’re going to discuss the behind the scenes of setting up your own business. I want to be as open as possible of our journey of starting WAC and what is to be expected. Let’s call it an ‘Instagram Vs Reality’ of entrepreneurship. The behind the scenes is difficult, time-consuming and tough however, the success is worth it. Seeing your dream business idea come to life is one of the best feelings and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
I guess I’ll start at the very beginning, almost three years ago now. Myself and my brother Elliot were toying with the idea of setting up a partnership business, we had an itch and we needed to scratch it! There was many a random conversation on business ideas but one thing was certain, it had to be Landrover 4x4 based which is an area we had massive interest and knowledge in. Even though both of us work full time at separate jobs, I am an Electrical Technician in the renewable energy industry while Elliot runs his own business Pathfinders Camper Conversion, we were still very eager to build a new business as we had the ability and the motivation.
